Coach Education
In an ongoing effort to improve the quality of coaching across the board within our club and to subsequently improve the fun and excitement for all of our players, NYSL is moving to mandatory coaching education for all coaches, beginning fall 2009. The USSF “F” module coaching course will satisfy this requirement for all Recreation coaches, while the USSF “E” coaching course will continue to satisfy this requirement for all Advanced coaches. We are proud to offer both courses throughout the year as a way to improve the quality of our organization and improve upon the experiences of our players.
THE “F” COACHING CERTIFICATE COURSE:
The “F” is broken up into two distinct half-day modules or it can be taken as one day-long course to cover the entire range of player development from U6-U10. Each module is 5 hours, while the day-long course is 8 hours. NYSL Coaches can take the day-long course and complete the entire coaching requirement in 8 hours. The course covers team management, player development, age-specific player characteristics, and practical field sessions. This course will greatly enhance the ability of the coach to focus on age-appropriate skills for players throughout their early development. And that will translate to more enjoyment for the players and for you as the coach! Two sample schedules are available HERE.
THE “E” COACHING CERTIFICATE COURSE: The “E” is an 18 hour long course typically offered over the course of an entire weekend. The course focuses on the technical development of the player. Dribbling, passing, shooting, heading, goalkeeping, attacking, and defending will all be covered. Lectures and field sessions will provide demonstrations and theory. Practice coaching and a non graded exam will help to give the coaches practical experience with feedback. A typical schedule is available HERE.

COST:
FREE FOR ALL NYSL COACHES! As in the past, NYSL will be reimbursing all NYSL coaches for the cost of receiving their education. We feel obtaining quality instruction is a very important part of our players’ soccer experience, so we will be reimbursing all coaches for their participation in each course. Each NYSL coach will be responsible for submitting payment to hold their spot in the course and assure attendance. Payment will be held until the course completion, when it will be reimbursed after successfully attending. Non-NYSL coaches will not be reimbursed for the cost of the course. All coaches will receive an instruction book to keep as part of the course.
Please note: payment for the course will not be reimbursed if a coach registers and does not attend.
| Course | Member Fee (includes NYSL Coaches and VYSA teams) | Non-member fee (non VYSA Team) |
| F Module | $40 | $55 |
| E Course | $70 | $95 |
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
All U6-U10 Recreation Coaches are required to attend the F module coaching course. It is also highly recommended that all U4-U5 Recreation coaches participate in this course for the same reason, as this will prepare each coach for the years ahead.
All Advanced Coaches are required to attend the E coaching course. All U12 and up Recreation coaches are strongly encouraged to attend the E Coaching course as well, as this will target the needs of players in this age group
WHEN TO ATTEND:
Beginning fall 2009, all U6-U10 Recreation coaches will have one year to complete the coaching education requirement for their age group. All Advanced coaches have one year to complete the E course.
COURSE RENEWAL:
Once taken, neither the F nor the E course will need to be updated or renewed. They are one-time courses that do not need to be taken again once completed. It is a lifetime certificate. It is recommended that coaches progress from the F module course to the E course. If coaches are interested in progressing from that point, courses are offered for continued education, including the USSF D, C, B and A.
